Fledglings News October 2025
CONGRATULATIONS! To Steph, Kris & Ralph on their beautiful new daughter, Frankie who arrived on 14th October at 6:55am.  Mum and baby doing very well so far.  We are currently all fighting for the first cuddle !
Funded Childcare Policy Permission on Famly – we sent a new permission regarding our funded childcare policy a couple of weeks ago which needs signing by the end of today (15 October as stated in the newsfeed post).  As of today, there are still a number of parents who have yet to sign and agree this permission.  This will impact on whether we are able to claim funding on your behalf should you not agree with the funded childcare policy at Fledglings.  If you wish to discuss the policy before signing it, please urgently message Bhav and/or Jo. Parents Meetings – If you would like a meeting with your child’s key person, please reply to their message which will be sent via Famly.  Meetings can be arranged via Famly live/phone/face to face.
Allergies and dietary requirements – It is imperative that you keep your children’s allergies and dietary requirements list up to date.  Any child who has an allergy should have an allergy action plan or doctor’s note so that we have a plan of action should the child suffer an allergic reaction whilst in our care. Book Swaps – We encourage all families to use the book swap box at the entrance to Fledglings.  Please ensure they are returned in a usable condition.  If you have any books you wish to donate, please hand them in to any of the staff (eg. if your child is older and you are getting rid of any good condition baby books)

A couple of reminders if we may…

·  Please remember to check the children’s spare clothing bags for suitable spare clothing now that the weather has changed.

·  With it getting a little colder, some children are arriving in hats and gloves (oh, we love glove season!!!).  Please ensure all hats and gloves/ mittens are named.

·  If your child has toilet accidents or is toilet training, please ensure to send some spare shoes such as crocs / pumps or similar as quite often their shoes get spoiled during an accident.

Our ‘policy of the month’ this month is Attendance’ At Fledglings Preschool and Nursery, we value regular attendance as it helps children feel settled, secure, and fully benefit from the learning and play opportunities we provide. We understand that children may sometimes need to be absent for family reasons, holidays, or unexpected circumstances. This policy outlines how absences should be reported and how we support families to maintain good attendance.

1. Reporting Absence – Parents or carers must inform the nursery by 9:00am on the day of absence if their child will not be attending. Absences can be reported by telephone, text, or email to the nursery office. When reporting an absence, please include:

– Your child’s full name, – The reason for absence, – The expected date of return (if known).  If we have not heard from you by 9:30am, a member of staff will contact you to check on your child’s wellbeing and confirm the reason for their absence. This helps us ensure the safety of all children in our care.

2. Planned Absence and Holidays – Parents and carers are asked to give at least two weeks’ notice of any planned absence, such as family holidays or special occasions. You can inform us via Famly, email or phone.

3. Monitoring Attendance – Regular attendance supports children’s learning, development, and sense of belonging at Fledglings. The nursery monitors attendance to ensure each child is accessing their entitled sessions and to identify any patterns of absence. Persistent or unexplained absences will be followed up by the nursery manager. Where appropriate, a meeting may be arranged with parents or carers to discuss any issues and offer support. If there are safeguarding concerns regarding a child’s attendance or wellbeing, the nursery will follow its Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

4. Exceptional Circumstances – We recognise that families sometimes experience difficulties that may affect attendance. Parents and carers are encouraged to speak to the nursery manager in confidence if they are facing challenges. The nursery will aim to offer understanding, flexibility, and appropriate support wherever possible.

5. Policy Review – This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if required due to changes in legislation or nursery practice.

STAFFING We will be updating the staff structure within Famly documents for you today.  We would like to welcome Ellie Greenhough, Nyumasetu Sibi and Rayne Pollard to the Fledglings team who are all undertaking their training to be qualified nursery practitioners at our outstanding setting.
